NOTE TO OUR SAIL RACING CUSTOMERS:

US Sailing, as a prescription to the ORC safety rules, now requires that personal floatation be worn by all members of the crew.
Read the US Sailing Press Release

We think that Seacurity 2 is an ideal solution.  It satisfies the rule, is extremely comfortable to wear, and adds another measure of safety.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
Seacurity2 is a BUOYANCY AID requiring manual inflation (pull cord); Seacurity2 is not recommended for 'non swimmers' or for children under the age of 12 years.
SEACURITY has been manufactured by Survival Technologies Group since 1982. It was designed in answer to the problem of having a small, lightweight device that could still deliver high buoyancy. Only inflatables can solve this problem. If you won't wear a lifejacket when you're on the water, then, perhaps SEACURITY2 is the answer for you.

Seacurity2 from Survival Tech How SEACURITY2 works. The pouch can be worn at any position on the waist for comfort as long as the "Jerk to Inflate" lanyard can be grasped by either hand. When the tab lanyard is jerked down the CO2 cylinder is pierced and gas fills the inflatable. The horseshoeshaped buoyancy aid starts to inflate and pushes out of the pouch automatically in under 3 seconds. The horseshoe is tethered to the pouch with a 6 ft. line. Fully inflated the horseshoe will support 250 pounds in the water with good freeboard (water-to-mouth distance).

Using SEACURITY2 in the water. The buoy is entered by putting your chest into the opening and under the arms. If needed, the buoy may be rotated on the body so that the quick-closure buckle can be secured. You should float in a nearly vertical attitude. STG chose the horseshoe shape because tests showed that you have much more freeboard (water-to-mouth distance) than you do in a conventional vest-shape.

Disadvantage. Now let's be straight. Remember, there is no one cure-all device for an emergency and SEACURITY2 is by no means perfect. You must be conscious to pull the lanyard to inflate the device. You must get into the horseshoe. You must remain conscious or you can turn face-down. For short-term overboard or swimming problems these are not major difficulties and the advantages of SEACURITY2 far outweigh the disadvantages.

We recommend that you purchase at least one extra CO2 cylinder for your SEACURITY2 and try it in controlled circumstances. The new pouch is a pleasure to repack, not a challenge!
